Interior designer
Job summary
Main Responsibilities
· Receive, appraise and report on client requirements, site conditions, programme, budget and statutory constraints.
· Analyse spaces, circulation, user needs and technical information to establish effective project briefs and design strategies.
· Develop original concepts through sketches, mood boards, material palettes, CAD drawings, 3D models, renderings and presentations.
· Select and specify furniture, fixtures and equipment, lighting, materials, finishes, colours, fittings and accessories appropriate to the project brief and budget.
· Produce coordinated plans, reflected ceiling plans, sections, elevations, joinery details, schedules and technical specifications for all project stages.
· Lead or support the detailed design process and coordinate information with architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, MEP consultants, suppliers and contractors.
· Identify required surveys and technical studies, incorporate their findings and flag design, buildability, cost or compliance risks early.
· Review architectural and consultant drawings, shop drawings, samples and mock-ups; recommend amendments where needed.
· Contribute to tender documentation, procurement reviews, project meetings, presentations and quality-control processes.
· Conduct site visits and inspect work to confirm compliance with approved information, specifications, workmanship standards and design intent.
· Apply relevant building codes, fire and life-safety principles, accessibility requirements and health and safety considerations.
· Evaluate sustainable and circular design opportunities, including durable material choices, refurbishment, reuse, recycling and responsible sourcing.
· Remain informed about evolving design trends, products, technologies and sustainable practices.
Qualifications And Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture or a related discipline.
· Proven professional experience in interior design or interior architecture, ideally across hospitality, workplace, residential, retail or commercial projects.
· A strong portfolio demonstrating concept development, technical documentation and completed work.
· Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, building codes, accessibility and safety standards.
Key Skills And Competencies
· Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit, with strong working knowledge of SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop and presentation software. 3ds Max or similar visualisation tools would be an advantage.
· Excellent space-planning ability and a strong understanding of ergonomics, lighting, materials, finishes and colour.
· Sound technical detailing and construction knowledge.
· Strong visual communication, presentation, collaboration and client-facing skills.
· Effective organisation, project coordination and problem-solving, with close attention to detail.
· Ability to work calmly under pressure, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
