We were involved in the masterplanning of Azuri Phase 2, a visionary extension of the Azuri Smart City located on the north-east coast of Mauritius. The long-term vision for this development is to create a thriving, aesthetically pleasing residential area that serves the community’s needs while harmonising with the local environment and neighboring developments.

Developed as a “Smart City,” Azuri is a mixed-use project supported by the Minister of Environment. Collaborative efforts between project sponsors and local residents ensured that the development aligns with the government’s long-term sustainable vision for Mauritius. The goal was to balance the interests of both the community and the nation, promoting responsible growth and environmental stewardship.

The masterplan emphasises architecture and landscaping that are sympathetic to the natural river and coastal setting. Care was taken to avoid overpowering structures that might dominate the landscape. Instead, the design maximises views of the riverside and estuary, where applicable, allowing residents to connect with the natural beauty of their surroundings. Preservation and enhancement of the natural environment are encouraged throughout the development.

By integrating sustainable principles and respecting the unique ecological features of the site, Azuri Phase 2 stands as a model for future developments in the region.
