The project
1827
Vivea Business Park, Mauritius
Nestled within the vibrant Vivéa Business Park in Moka, 1827 is a remarkable example of historical preservation meeting contemporary design. Originally constructed in the year 1827, this former factory building has been meticulously renovated by Architects Studio to serve as a modern office space while retaining its rich historical essence.
The renovation pays homage to the building’s industrial past, showcasing original architectural elements that reflect the craftsmanship of the 19th century. Exposed brick walls, timber beams, and wrought iron details have been thoughtfully preserved and integrated with modern amenities. The result is a workspace that offers both aesthetic appeal and functional efficiency, providing an inspiring environment for businesses.
An inviting entrance piazza connects 1827 to its neighbouring building, The Factory, another renovated industrial structure by Architects Studio. This shared courtyard fosters a sense of community among occupants and enhances the overall ambience of the business park.
By breathing new life into this historical edifice, Architects Studio has created a unique fusion of old and new. 1827 not only serves as a testament to Mauritius’s industrial heritage but also sets a precedent for sustainable redevelopment. The project exemplifies how respecting the past can lead to innovative solutions for the future, offering modern office spaces that are both functional and steeped in history.
